Let’s get busy!

18 April 2014

I’ve been terribly distracted and busy with other stuff lately, so the blog has suffered. I was in the midst of making arrangements for summer travel to Spain and home, and also for Spring Break, then away on Spring Break. Finally, I’ve signed up for an online TESOL (Teaching English to Students of Other Languages) course to use my professional development money! Whew, lots to tell.

I guess I’ll begin with summer travel plans and living arrangements for next year. I’ve decided to stay in the same apartment for next year. We were given the opportunity to move to the twin buildings inside a walled complex, called the Dunes (Dina and Dana buildings). Where I live now is just next door, across an alley, but outside the wall in a building called the Annex. Main reasons for staying are I like my apartment and don’t need the additional space (I would just feel like I had to fill it with stuff) and I have done enough moving recently. So, I can just leave stuff over the summer (well, I could have if I moved too, but it would’ve had to be packed up and stored in someone’s apartment).

I will fly out of Kuwait to Frankfurt and from Frankfurt to Barcelona, where I will meet Adrianne (I arrive ½ hour after she does!!). We will spend a week there and then a week in Madrid and I will fly directly from Madrid back through DC to RDU. Adrianne will fly back to Asheville. I will spend about a week in NC and then head for the west coast. It has been two years since I’ve been to the big family reunion at Lake Stevens over the 4th of July, so I look forward to that! Then back to NC. I’ll stay a bit with Adrianne and Scott up in Asheville, a bit with Parker in Wilmington, and couch surf with friends in Chapel Hill. Then I’m headed back to Kuwait on the 19th of August.

I just signed up for and started a TESOL certificate program online. I’m excited about it because it will give me more flexibility for teaching outside the regular classroom, which I want maybe even especially if I return to the US to teach. I have until October to finish it, and will plan to spend some time on it this summer.

Hmm, maybe I should do this in installments. So I’ll add a separate post about Spring Break. I decided I needed to have at least one picture, so here’s a random spare tire that I saw on a car here. It made me laugh.

Spare??? tire!!

Spare??? tire!!
